At the Restaurant wine-cellar Josić one can surely experience the hundred years old story about Baranya’s cases, which will vivify tastes of traditional Baranya’s cuisine emphasising the top quality of all prepared meals. The “special spices” are numerous happenings organized in the restaurant and the wine tasting building.
The restaurant is situated in the environment of so called SURDUK, in an idyllic village Zmajevac in Baranya.
SURDUK – a Turkish name for a typical cutting in a hill with wine-cellars called “Gatori” buried in the ground where the temperature is always between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for wine.
SURDUK represents one of the most authentic cultural-historic treasures in this area of Baranya.
The restaurant’s gastronomic profile is traditional but includes valuable intervention of contemporary trends.
Various fresh water fish specialities are in the rich offer such as stews (Hungarian style, seasoned with paprika), smoked fish; and meat and venison courses made grilled on charcoal, under a baking lid or on the roasting spit; and certainly the goulash (beef stew) and “čobanac”. All dishes are prepared in front of the guests.
The JOSIĆ wines have been awarded by numerous gold medals for their quality, design and the original approach to decorating bottles with labels containing rare and endangered non-migratory bird species of the area. The authors are the academic painter-graphic artist Sabina Ostojić and the recognized photographer and recorder Mario Romulić.
The restaurant and the wine tasting building were decorated in a so called eclectic style combining the traditional – rustic elements with modern designer solutions.
You can attend art exhibitions, regular music programmes (tamburitza music, parlor songs/ballads etc.), periodically organized concerts encompassing a broad spectrum from world music to jazz. Apart from the above mentioned, you will be able to enjoy in periodically organized gastro happenings like Fišijada (fish stew competition), Kulenijada, Old Croatian meals’ days, wine presentations, and even in sommelier courses for amateurs. The restaurant offers professional wedding organizations, family and business meals, meals for tourist groups and other occasions.
